Employers, give fresh graduates an opportunity to learn - my story

Six years ago, I got fired from a job. Walking home with my frustration I met some people gathering somewhere who said they came for an interview at a popular 4-star restaurant in V.I. back then, so I rushed home and return with my CV, even though I was not invited for the interview (thank God my house was close by). Somehow, I managed to sit with the interviewer who went through my CV and said I do not have any experience in the hospitality industry as all he could see on my CV were ICT related experiences. Then I responded by asking “Sir with all due respect, if I leave this restaurant to the next restaurant or bar or club or even a hotel, they will likely turn me down because of the same reason, ‘lack of experience’; now, if I don’t work in any of these places, how will I ever have the required experience, why not allow your good organization to be my first place of experience?” This interviewer looked at me and decided to take a chance on me, he gave me the opportunity to learn as a trainee waiter, we went through six months intensive training; I began to grow and started my hospitality journey to where I am today in the industry. Thanks to Mr. Peter Abah who took a chance on me, today I have a story to tell.
