A HEART OF GOLD DEMONSTRATED

Last Saturday, something shocking happened during the 2019 international 10km race. Kenyan athlete Simon Cheprot who was about to win this race for the second time, saw his Kenyan colleague Kenneth Kipkemoi collapse while they were almost at the finish line. To the shock of everyone, Cheprot retreated to pick his colleague, lifted him up and they both walked to the finish line, in the 15th and 16th positions.

Fans across the world who were watching on live TV, as well as those present, celebrated him as a hero for dropping his own winning ambitions to take care of his brother. The Nigeria IAAF representative Mike Itemuagbor described him as “our hero” and later rewarded him 35 million shillings for his humanitarian effort. The organizers of the 7th International 10km Road Race also rewarded him 35 million shillings for being "brother's keeper".
