My First Job Interview - Gone Wrong, Gone Right!
Soon after I graduated, my father told me he's going to take me somewhere to look for a job in a very big media house in Kenya. I was smartly dressed, with my black folder in tow. Mzee was carrying a brown envelope with my CV. When we got to the HR Director's office, he warmly welcomed us before asking us what brought us there. Mzee introduced me and spoke about my qualifications for about ten minutes. He listened keenly without interrupting. When Mzee finished, he thanked him and asked told him I am now in safe hands and that he could leave me behind I am in safe hands. Mzee smiled and left. Two minutes later, HR, infuriated asked me "WHY THE HELL DOES YOUR PARENT AT HIS AGE HAVE TO HELP YOU FIND A JOB!! YOU YOUNG MEN OF TODAY!! GET OUT OF MY OFFICE!! Well, I could have decided to be bitter, but since that day, I learned to keep my Dad off any official matters and I encourage young men and women to learn to fight out here. That HR taught me something.
