COMMON NATURAL HOME REMEDIES FOR CHILDREN

KID BEING IMMUNIZED
WHO
As a mom, you are always going to worry when your little one(s) falls sick. A child’s immune system isn’t as developed as an adult’s this is why they are prone to illness. But whether it is a tummy ache, a stuffy nose, or a bug bite, doctors say that old-fashioned home remedies are often the best way to help children feel better fast. These time-tested treatments rarely have side effects, cost next to nothing, and are items you probably already have on hand.

Here are a few common natural home remedies you can use to combat them when next they come knocking:

To boost your child’s immune system, offer him healthy foods, make sure he gets enough sleep at night and proper rest during the day, incorporate physical activities in his daily routine, ensure his safety and give him a healthy environment in which to develop.

• Honey for Common Cold:

For children suffering from the common cold, raw honey is a good remedy (due to its antimicrobial properties). It also helps reduce nighttime coughing and improves sleep. (Note: Do not give honey to children under age one as it can cause infant botulism)

• Ginger for Asthma:

Ginger is a time-honored natural treatment for Asthma. Its anti-inflammatory property helps reduce airway inflammation and inhibits airway contraction. (Add honey to ginger juice for full effect)

• Olive Oil for Earaches:

Put 3 or 4 drops of lukewarm olive oil into your child’s ear canal. The oil will act as a lubricant causing the wax to soften, which you can then remove with cotton swabs. Be sure not to put the cotton swabs too far into the ear. (Applying a warm washcloth around the affected ear can also help relieve pain).

• Turmeric for Coughs:

Turmeric is a good remedy for coughs due to its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral action. Mix ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder in a glass of warm milk and give it to your child to drink. (Drinking warm lemonade can also help treat coughs in children)

You should call your pediatrician if your child’s ailment seems serious, but the next time your child has a minor ache or injury, you can use any of these smart solutions.
