The Weight-Control Information Network suggests the following to help women stay healthy both while they are pregnant and after their child is born: speak to your healthcare provider about what exercises are safe to perform during pregnancy, return to normal exercise after the baby is born (as soon as your doctor approves such activities), drink plenty of fluids when exercising, use caution when exercising in warm weather, eat a balanced diet both during and after the pregnancy, and if possible, breastfeed to aid in burning calories.

Get to bed early in a dark room that will allow you to sleep for a minimum of 8 hours. If your quality sleep isn’t happening you need to be taking steps to fix it! Remember that your body is growing a baby, you need much more rest than normal.

You just need to modify your exercise programs by reducing duration and intensity and choosing specific pregnancy exercises that you will enjoy.

Gentle Yoga Safe During Late Pregnancy. Yoga poses appear to be safe for expectant mothers even late into pregnancy.

Researchers found that yoga postures had no ill effects on heart rate, blood pressure, or other vital signs of mom or fetus. Dr. Fahimeh Sasan, an assistant professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive science at Mount Sinai's Icahn School of Medicine, in New York City comments, "In a healthy pregnancy, we encourage all kinds of moderate activity. I think these findings help validate what we've been telling women." She adds that moderate exercise can help women avoid excessive weight gain during their pregnancy and that yoga can help women achieve relaxation and calmness.

Lastly, listening to your body is the key to staying in shape. Every woman is different and what works for one may not work for another. You will have weeks where you have heaps of energy and others when you have none. Do not push yourself if you are tired, it is not good for you or your baby!

Listen to your body for the best results and to enjoy a happy and healthy pregnancy.
