Google Application process

According to a Google spokesperson, the prestigious company only accepts 1,500 interns out of 40,000 annually in the United States. As such, the application process can be slow and tedious.

Whether you’re looking for an internship or a full-time position, the process begins with an online application. Similar to most jobs, the online form will ask for:
  • Your personal information
  • Academic records
  • Work experience
  • Extracurricular activities

It can take a couple of weeks for Google to respond to your application via email. Soon after comes the interview portion.

The interview process can last more than a month after you applied the first time. Which consist of a call from Google HR, where you should expect to have two phone interviews with current Google employees.

Most interviews will require your technical approach and critical thinking skills. Rohan Shah, a recent google intern, says the best piece of advice he received from his mentor was to “Stay calm.” Going through this process with a leveled head will help your skills shine regardless of how nervous you may be.

Google Perks

Did we mention Perks? Yes, that’s right! Google pays for corporate housing and connects interns with roommates. In addition to free housing, interns will receive the following perks free of charge:
  • Housing
  • Transportation
  • Food and refreshments
  • Gym memberships
  • Laundry
  • Dancing lessons
  • Google apparel and gear

Google Compensation

Google interns get paid more than most full-time employees across the country. Glassdoor estimates that the average intern at Google makes $5,678 per month or $68,136 per year.

As an intern, you will be paid on a biweekly basis and will receive a signing bonus in some instances.

Google Grievances

Like any other job, Google may come with some ups and downs. Many don’t complain about Google. Therefore, we encourage you to learn more about the company’s culture and ask current employees for their honest opinions.

Life after Internship: Landing a full-time job with Google

Interns can interview for full-time positions before their departure, and their mentors can help them prep. Google generally looks for previous internships, relevant classes, personal projects, and roles related to knowledge and leadership skills.

The interview process varies depending on which job position you apply to, but typically involves the following:
  • An online application
  • One or two phone or video interviews
  • Technical assessment (if necessary)

If you don’t land a job, don’t worry. You’ll probably end up alright. Having an internship at Google will set you apart from others. Many Google Interns land a full-time position within the company after graduation or work for another well-known company.
