Note

  1. A married person cannot take up single membership and a member who is a single member needs to upgrade their membership to joint once they get married.
  2. Country Membership is available to persons living within a seventy (70) km radius of the Club and is only allowed at the Club twice in a calendar month.
  3. Life Membership is for members who have been members of the Club for 25yrs continuously and who have attained the age of 65yrs.
  4. Temporary membership can only be held for a maximum of 2 years and is currently only open to non-Kenyans.
  1. Junior Membership is for members’ children between the ages of 18-24yrs who are still dependents of their parents/guardians, after which they transition to full members.
  2. Corporate Membership is open to corporate bodies as directed by the Club’s Memorandums and Articles of Association and shall nominate a minimum of three (3) of its employees to take up such membership.
  3. Gymkhana activities are charged at KES 150 for members and KES 250 for non-members.

Membership Process

To become a member, you must be proposed by a full member who has been at the club for at least one year.

  • To propose a new member, the proposer must have been a full member of the club for at least one year.
  • The proposer and a seconder fill in an application form and return it to the membership office attaching the following:
  1. Membership entrance fee
  2. Two passport size photos of the applicant and spouse (for joint full membership)
  3. Copies of ID or passport for both applicant and spouse (for joint full membership)
  4. Birth certificates for children below 18 years (where applicable)
  5. A one-page CV for the applicant.
  • The proposer and the applicant then appear for balloting by the Membership & Disciplinary Committee (usually on the 1st Saturday of the month, at a place within the club to be advised).
  • After the candidate is balloted and is successful, the applicant’s name and photo is posted on the notice board for two months to allow vetting by the general membership. The applicant is also issued with a temporary card for use during the vetting period.
  • After two months on the board with no objection from the members, a second Noting is done by the Membership & Disciplinary Committee and thereafter the application is forwarded to the Board of Directors for election.

On Election, the applicant is confirmed as a member of the club. A permanent Membership card is issued. Should an application be unsuccessful, or the applicant withdraws the application, the applicant receives a refund less 10% administrative costs. An applicant has up to three months to complete the application process, failure to which the applicant will receive a refund less 10% administrative costs.

Muthaiga Golf Club is a private member-owned corporate & family oriented Club with an elite & culturally diverse Membership. The Club, proudly referred to by many as, the “Home of Golf” offers premiere golfing experience & social amenities. The Club also reciprocates with over 10 Clubs within the country, East Africa, South Africa, Europe & the Far East. At Muthaiga Golf Club, we also offer various categories of Membership namely; Full Membership, Country Membership, Overseas Membership, Expatriate Membership & Temporary Membership.

Prospective Members need to be proposed for membership by a current member of Muthaiga Golf Club of good standing. He/she must also have held such membership for more than three years.

Our Membership Categories:

a) Temporary Membership

Describes a person proposed by a Full Member and accepted by the Board to join the Club. Such a person shall not ordinarily be a resident within One Hundred kilometer radius of the Club, and may be entitled to enjoy the privileges of the Club for any period of less than three months in any one year, subject to re-election by the Board for a total period not exceeding six months in that year. They shall not be liable for any entrance fees, but shall pay such temporary membership fees at the rates currently applicable. Temporary members may enjoy the privileges of the Club, except that they may not take part in Club competitions, or introduce Guests to the Club.

b) Expatriate Membership

Expatriate Membership category is offered to members of the Diplomatic Corps, business person or an international employee who doesn’t ordinarily reside in Kenya but who would like to commence or continue to enjoy playing the game of golf during their stay in Kenya. Expatriate Membership is for a term not exceeding 3 years.

The expatriate joining procedures shall be as follows:

1.Filing in of an application form.

2.A letter of introduction from the employer. (If the applicant is an international employee).

3.An application form shall be processed upon receipt of the letter of introduction from the employer.

4.The candidate shall be required to pay the annual fees, within 30 days, and will be admitted as an expatriate member for a 3 months’ probation period.

During probation the candidate shall be invited for an introduction to at least 3 Membership & Disciplinary committee members and the General Manager. His application will also be processed through the Membership & Disciplinary Committee and the Board during the probation period.

c) Reciprocating Membership

A reciprocating Member is a Full Member of another Club that has negotiated and agreed on reciprocal terms for members with the Club and is not situated within a radius of 100 KM of Muthaiga Golf Club. A reciprocating member shall be allowed to use the Club facilities not more than twice a month and shall be subject to the rules and Bye-Laws of Muthaiga Golf Club.

To become a member, download and fill the membership application form, submit the form to our Golf Admin office in the hotel with a set of passport size photos. Prepare payment for the chosen membership category, once payment is done you will be issued with a membership number which will be his/her account, temporary membership cards and two car stickers for the current year.

HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER

Proposing an individual or couple joining the club

The potential candidate/s must to be introduced by two (2) members of the Club; a Proposer and a Seconder who;

  • Must have been members of the club for a minimum of two (2) years
  • Are of good standing

A member is permitted to propose two candidates in a year. There is no limit to the number one may “second.”

The club does not accept applications where the Proposers are work colleagues of the applicant. However, the candidate/s may be seconded by colleagues from the workplace.

Proposal Procedures & Requirements

  • The proposer must submit a letter of introduction and CV of their candidate to the membership office and/or the GMs office.
  • A proposal form is then issued for completion by the Proposer, Seconder and Candidate. When completed this is returned to the Membership Administrator. Current passport size photographs must be attached for each candidate listed.
  • This proposal form is then forwarded to the balloting committee and the contents reviewed. The Membership Administrator and/or General Manager then contacts the proposer with feedback.
  • Successful candidates are then expected to pay the requisite fees and commence the balloting process.
  • During the balloting period, the candidates are eligible for temporary cards that enable them to use the club facilities. This temporary membership does not allow the candidate/s to invite guests to the club.

PERMANENT MEMBERSHIP
There are two classes of Permanent Membership:-

FULL MEMBERS who are entitled to all the privileges of membership, including voting rights and the use of affiliated Clubs in Kenya and Overseas.

COUNTRY MEMBERS who must reside outside a radius of 50 km from the GPO in Eldoret. They are entitled to all the privileges of membership as above but may not vote at Special or annual General Meetings.

With effect from 1st Jan 2019 the Fees for the various classes of membership are as follows:-

Joining The Club

One needs to get two full members of the club who will propose and second you through a prescribed form available from the club. The form to be accompanied with a detailed CV, Passport/National Identity Card and copies of Professional academic Certificates of the prospective member.

The Balloting Committee then evaluates all the applications submitted and admissions will only be awarded to those applicants who meet the Club entry requirements. The number of new members to be admitted depends on the vacancies available and it’s on first come first admitted basis.

Members children upon attaining the age of 21 are supposed to take up junior membership which runs up to the age of 25. Upon attaining the age of 25, the junior member is eligible to graduate to a full member.

Payments are as follows:

Member Admission

ew members shall meet the following requirements:

  • Be proposed by full or life members of the club.
  • A person applying for admission as a member shall first be introduced as a guest by a full (who has been a member for at least two years) or life member.
  • If such a person develops interest in joining the club, his or her proposer shall write an introduction letter to the membership secretary who shall give out the necessary application forms to be completed by the applicant.
  • The proposer shall seek a seconder for his or her nominee.
  • The proposer shall introduce the applicant to as many members of the committee as possible and at least 8 of them shall enter an endorsement in the application form.
  • The applicant shall submit a duly completed form together with a cheque/EFT of the prevailing membership fee.

Full Membership

Members in this class are duly elected as such under regulation 5 and are not in arrears with Annual Subscription. They enjoy all the privileges of the club and are eligible to vote at any General Meeting. They can be elected to the Executive Committee or sub-committees of the Club.    

Family membership

A Family Membership is that of a legal husband and wife (or wives) and legal children under age of twenty [20] years.

Junior Membership (under 24 years)

Junior Members shall be Children of Full and Life Members, who have attained the age of 16 years but have not attained the age of 24 years. They shall be elected in the same way as full members and shall be, on election, be entitled to use the club facility on payment of such annual subscription and fees as shall be decided from time to time by the Executive Committee.

A Junior Member who attains the age of twenty four [24] years before becoming a full member and, wishes to be a Full Member, will pay the prevailing Subscription fees.

Life Membership and Senior Membership

An Annual General Meeting may admit on nomination by the Executive Committee, Senior Members who shall not be less than 65 years of age and who have in the opinion of the members, rendered exemplary and meritorious service to the club and who shall have been members for NOT less than 25 consecutive years.

Life/Senior Members have all the rights and privileges of a Full Member save that he or she shall not pay any Annual Subscription Fee but shall pay all appropriate Games fees.

Temporary Membership

Anyone paying green fees automatically becomes a temporary member and is entitled to use the facilities of the club for that day.

Honorary Membership

The Executive committee may elect a person as an Honorary Member for one year who may have by reason of his or her office in the Sub-County, rendered to the Club honorary service or has general interest in the club and its members.

For the sole purpose of developing talent in any sport played at the Club, The Management Committee may admit such a person into Club Membership of the club and waive membership fees payable.

Reciprocating Members and Associate Members

Members of Clubs with similar aims and aspirations under special arrangements with their mother clubs shall be allowed to use the Club facilities but within the agreed reciprocal terms. A reciprocating member MUST sign the specified reciprocating book.

Corporate Members

A corporate member is any registered institution and pays the prescribed membership fees for its employees. It may from time to time vary the holder of its membership by returning the member’s card and are issued with a new card.

Absentee Members

An Absentee Member shall be a former Full Member of the club who resides 100km from the Club and who has been elected as such by the Management Committee. Such a member pays Annual and Games Subscription fees as shall be decided from time to time. An Absentee Member shall have no voting rights at any of the meetings nor be eligible for election to any committee but shall have all other benefits of a Full Member.

Non Resident Membership

A non-resident member is one who resides outside Kenya but frequently visits the country. He/she shall pay such entrance and annual subscription as may be determined by the Executive Committee but the entrance and subscription fee shall not be less than that of a full Member.

Student Membership

There shall be student membership of a person of over 21 years of age whose parents are members of the Club of either Full Member or Life Member. He or she should be a full time student in a recognized University or a tertiary College or any other institution of learning recognized by the Executive Committee. On ceasing to be a student under full time tuition a member hitherto a student member shall be eligible to become a Full Member by paying the applicable annual fees subject to the offer being taken within one year after ceasing to be a student
