The Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) is a
Statutory Professional body established under the Human Resource Management
Professionals (HRMP) Act, No. 52 of 2012. Its mandate is to regulate the HR
profession in Kenya, enhance competencies and capabilities, and support
innovative and transformative HR practices and standards.
IHRM is a State Agency in the Ministry of Public Service,
Performance, and Delivery Management and operates within the Republic of Kenya.
The Institute is governed by a Council and headed by the Executive Director,
who is responsible for the general policy and strategic direction of the
Council and as the Secretary.
IHRM, formerly known as the Institute of Personnel
Management Kenya (IPM (K)), was registered in 1987 as an association of
personnel practitioners to share knowledge and experiences for professional
development. In July 2007, IPM (K) changed its name to IHRM to establish a
legal framework to govern the practice of Human Resource Management in Kenya.
The Council has delegated authority to Branches consisting
of professionals located in specific geographical areas, facilitating service
devolution, networking, and continuous professional development.
IHRM is located in Nairobi City County on the 24th Floor of
Prism Towers, 3rd Ngong Avenue, Upperhill. It offers various services,
including Member Registration, Continuing Professional Development through
training, Consultancy, Lobbying, and Advocacy.
With a membership of over 17,000 HR professionals from a wide range of sectors (National Government, County Governments, State Corporations, NGOs, Academia, Faith-based organizations, Private sector, and Consultancies), IHRM plays a vital role in the HR community in Kenya.
