MEDICAL OFFICER
REPORTS TO: MEDICAL OFFICER IN-CHARGE
a) JOB PURPOSE
To attend to patients in the Outpatient department by
offering consultations and performing necessary procedures, stabilize
emergencies in the Accident and Emergency and Inpatient department, liaise with
consultants in the management of patients in the Inpatient and Outpatient
departments.
b) MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attending
to any emergencies in the A&E and Out-patient departments
- Attending
patients in the In -patient department in conjunction with the consultant.
- Attending
direct admissions and doing admissions of patients when deemed necessary.
- Participating
in mortality and morbidity audits.
- Diagnosis
and management as per protocol.
- Participation
in health talks and outreach programs
- Participation
in training including weekly CMEs
- Participation
in creating clinical SOPs in coordination with resident consultants.
- Maintaining
medical records through proper documentation of patient’s medical history
and procedures done.
- Counseling
patients and relatives on diagnosis and bereavement
c) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s
degree in medicine and surgery.
- Registered
with The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
- Valid
practicing License from The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
- Active
BLS AND ACLS certificates.

in basic anatomy, physiology, pharmacology

literate

with locally available drugs and their indications

MEDICAL/SURGICAL NURSE (LOCUM)
REPORTS TO: NURSE IN-CHARGE
a) JOB PURPOSE
Providing high standard of nursing care to all patients in
line with the Hospital’s policies and procedures and achieving patient safety
goals.
b) MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver
direct patient care including but not limited to assessment, planning,
implementation and evaluation of nursing interventions through
professionalism and high standard of nursing care within the department.
- Advocate
for patient needs, rights and preferences ensuring a patient centered
approach to care.
- Serve
as an expert resource person providing expert nursing care and demonstrate
advanced clinical skills and knowledge in nursing practice.
- Engage
on a daily basis with doctors and other care providers regarding patients’
plan of care and care solutions with emphasis on a Team-based
problem-solving approach to unified approach to patient care.
- Collaborate
with interdisciplinary health care teams to coordinate the delivery of
comprehensive care.
- Facilitate
effective communication between healthcare professionals, patients, and
their families to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Participate
in quality improvement initiatives and ensure adherence to established
standards, policies and procedures. Monitor and evaluate quality of care
provided, identify areas of improvement and implement corrective actions
as necessary.
- Administering
treatment to patients a prescribed.
- Carry
out patients’ proper orientation within the section.
- Relay
accurate information to clinical staff on a patient’s condition.
- Responding
to and reporting any abnormal recordings to the person in charge.
- Respond
to emergencies when they arise.
- Labeling
and dispatching specimens to laboratory promptly and safely.
- Perform
routine nursing duties, prepare for and clear the ward before admission
and after discharge.
- Ensure
patients basic needs are met (feeding, bathing, change of linen etc.)
- Provide
health education to patients to promote health.
- Proper
documentation, maintaining proper records, confidentiality and always
handing over between shifts.
- Identify
and address potential risks and hazards in the care environment. Implement
preventive measures and promote patient safety initiatives.
- Carry
out special outpatient clinic activities (maternal, well baby, OPD).
- Any
other duty as assigned by the supervisor in the line with the job
description.
c)MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma
in nursing from a recognized institution. A degree in nursing will be an
added advantage.
- At
least 2 years’ experience in medical-surgical ward
- Knowledge
in computer applications
- Updated
BLS and ACLS training certifications.
