There is always the excitement of being a new blogger
in Kenya but reality hits you when you remember that you need to make money.
There are over 100 ways to generate money from a new blog but I will only list
the easiest ones. New bloggers are mostly not experienced in matters to do with
blogging, they just need a platform which they can join and easily start making
money.
A new blog is one that is not older than 2 years. In
most cases, such a blog attracts less than 100,000 page views per month. With
such low traffic, the possibility of earning more than Ksh 10,000 is low. But
the good thing is that there are monetization platforms that accept websites
with low traffic.
Here are the best ways to generate income from a new
blog:
·
MGID
MGID is the most popular native advertisement
platform. Almost every new blogger joins MGID before they look for other means
of generating revenues. The platform requires the following;
1.
At least 10,000 page views per month
2.
At least 20 articles
3.
No adult content, especially videos
4.
No fake traffic
5.
Original and unique content
Once your blog starts getting over 10,000 page views
per month.
With the traffic of 50,000 page views per month, you’ll
earn more than Ksh5,000. The best traffic is from 500,000 page views per month.
MGID works well with news, entertainment, sports,
health, gossip, and political blogs. You can earn in excess of Ksh1 million per
month if you generate good traffic.
·
AdSense
AdSense is owned by Google and is the second most
popular monetization platform by Kenyan bloggers. AdSense pays more than MGID
and it’s the one every new blogger opts to join. But the problem is that
getting in is harder than being accepted by MGID. For one to be approved, your
blog must meet these conditions:
1.
It must have fresh, unique, and original
content
2.
Your articles must be useful and of high
quality
3.
Each article should have more than 500
words. You should also ensure that there are a couple of articles with more
than 2,000 words each.
4.
Your blog should have a high-level domain.
5.
The blog should not have fake traffic
6.
The blog should have original images
7.
Avoid adult content or content that
promotes violence and terrorism
Blogs that offer tips on education, business, real
estate and money are easily accepted by AdSense.
·
Content.ad
You can also try Content.ad if the two companies above
don’t accept your application. However, Content.ad is only good for
entertainment, politics, news, and gossip blogs. The approval requirements for
Content.ad are similar to that of MGID.
If you are good at marketing, Jumia will also be
another good source of making money through affiliate marketing. There are many
bloggers in Kenya who earn through the Jumia affiliate marketing program. The
company will approve your application as long as you own a website.
·
Selling betting tips
There are a sizeable number of bloggers who sell
betting tips to earn a living from their blogs. This one is the only ideal for
bloggers majoring in sports and gambling content.
·
Sell your own products
and skills
You can do a CV and cover letter writing to your
audience or sell your skills like web design and data analysis. You can also
become a broker where you market products like land and rental property.
If you position yourself well, work hard and
strategize, you’ll earn millions like the likes of Venas News, Ghafla, Tuko and
Kenyans.
