TSC Appointment Letters for New Teachers: the recruitment of teachers by the Commission is demand-driven and has been decentralized to TSC County for primary schools and Board of Management for post-primary institutions.

TSC Process of recruitment and selection

  • The Commission will advertise available vacancies and interested candidates will be required to submit application forms to the county/institutions where they would wish to be considered for employment.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to appear before the recruitment panel.
  • Successful candidates will fill employment forms.
  • Agents will submit completed forms and merit lists to TSC headquarters

TSC Vetting Process


The Commission will vet the recruitment documents in accordance with the guidelines and:
  • Inform the recruiting agents of the outcome of the vetting process.
  • Issue appointment letters to successful candidates. Failure to take up the appointment within the stipulated period will automatically lead to the cancellation of the appointment.

Aggrieved candidates may channel their grievances to the Commission within two weeks from the selection date.

TSC Offer of employment letter/Appointment letter


This is a letter given to a newly employed teacher. Here are key points contained in the TSC offer of employment letter:
  • The day a teacher starts teaching will be the effective date of employment.
  • The normal period of probation is six months but this may be extended if the teacher is not satisfying as per the TPAD ratings.
  • At the end of the probation period, the teacher should apply to the Teacher Service Commission for confirmation through the headteacher.
  • The teacher will enjoy between Kshs 395,856 p.a to Kshs 511,704 p.a. He or she is also entitled to allowances where applicable.
  • The teacher should be ready to teach in any educational institution depending on where the commission will place you.
  • Before considering a transfer to another station, a teacher must ensure that he or she has served in his initial posting station for a period of not less than five years.
