Importance of Reading Books in a Student Life

Books play a very important role in everyone’s life, especially in a students’ life. They are our best friends because they inspire us to do great things in life and overcome our failures. We learn a lot of things from them. Books are our best companions as they provide us knowledge unconditionally without asking for anything in return.

Friendship with good books makes you a good person. In case when there is no one for your help, only these will become your companion in life. Books will always be there for you in your adverse times and bring positive value to our life.

For students, it is worth saying that

“A room without books is like a body without a soul.”

A good book is like a good friend; the more you read it, the more interesting it will be. They have always benefit to the reader.

1. Tell us about the History

In modern times, books are the only medium through which we can know about History. These tell us what all happened in the past. Books like “A Brief History of Time” by Stephens Hawking and “The Sixth Extinction” by Elizabeth Kolbert, etc. are some of the major books that tell us about the natural History of pastimes.

2. Teach Positive values, Spirituality and Love

Books bring a realization of the values contained in our hearts. With the help of good story books, one can learn moral values, ethics in life, and become a good human being. It is necessary to gain some positive values in life which reflect the individual character as well as spirituality.

3. Make us Intelligent

Reading good books like autobiographies of many prominent personalities, philosophers and authors inspire us to become or to achieve something great like them. It also makes us intelligent as we gain a lot of knowledge by reading books.

4. Increase Self Confidence, Boost Memory and Imagination Power

Reading books and novels can also improve our memory, reduce stress, and increase mental power as well as knowledge. They also help us to improve vocabulary, concentration power & make our thinking skills stronger.

5. These are also the library of information

Books are considered as a “store of information” using which we can gain information by reading at any time. Reading is something that will always increase knowledge. Whether we study or teach anyone, knowledge goes on increasing with time.

As said by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam –

“Learning gives Creativity, and Creativity leads to Thinking, Thinking provides Knowledge, Knowledge makes you Great.”

Qualities that I learned from Good Books

Being Smart: Reading knowledgeable books make us intelligent & smart enough to understand things in a better way. We can take examples of books like “The Courage to Write” by Ralph Keyes and “Thinking Fast & Slow” by Dan Kahneman.

Good Moral Values: Reading enhances our thoughts & ideas of a better society. They provide us good moral values which are necessary for every human life. Books like Ramayana and Bhagavad Gita teaches about the moral values and duty of a person.

Brave: “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare, is one of the books that form ultimate & perfect exploration of the difficulties faced by some of the great people. These types of books are themselves a material proof of remarkable courage of famous personalities.

Be Humble: Books help us to build the character of a man. They teach us how to be humble while dealing with daily life situations. Reading good books of great persons help to become a better human in life.

Be Thankful: Books help us to become a man of a good attitude. Gratitude makes us feel happier & make the most out of our life. Some of the books of great persons like “My Experiments with Truth” can help us how to become a good nature man.

Help others: Teaching service & helping others can’t be done with only instructions. Helpfulness & kindness comes with reading good books, every day experiences & by seeing others.

Books like ‘How to Heal a Broken Wing’, ‘Random Acts of Kindness’, ‘The Giving Tree’, etc are very helpful for teaching services like humanity, Self-sacrifice and helping others.

Be Positive: Books like ‘The Alchemist’, ‘Power of Positive Thinking’ and ‘The Magic’ forms a good example of positivity. These books not only help to inspire, motivate us but also helped millions of people realize that their dream lies within the ability to practice full faith in their everyday actions.

As said by William James,

“If you can change your mind. You can change your life as well”.

Be Compassionate: If you have ever read a book about Mother Teresa, you will see your thinking about being compassionate to others get renewed. Her life itself was a prime example of compassion towards others.

Never Give Up: The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela – Long Walk to Freedom gives you a good example that Nothing is Impossible, and we should never lose hope.

Students tend to underestimate the power of books. Books can open a whole new world, which is immersive and teaches you a valuable lesson. Every book you read adds more to you and gives you a priceless experience.

Last but not least, books have been and will be man’s best friends. They are the real treasure of every Student.
